....and there shall be earthquakes in divers places (Mark 13:8)
We have all seen the devastation from the recent Earthquakes in Haiti, Chili, Turkey, and Indonesia. Vast resources were lost and others are needing to be imported to help our brothers and sisters in those regions. As such, Governor Gary Herbert has declared April 4-10 as Earthquake Preparedness Week. The Declaration he signed has many reasons that we should be thinking about this. Take a look at the Declaration here.
Our State has a website that deals with this specific issue of Earthquake preparedness. See http://bereadyutah.gov/EarthquakePreparedness.html. This site states following:
Why is earthquake preparedness important in Utah?
Utah has experienced damaging earthquakes in the past and geologic evidence indicates that earthquakes larger than any experienced locally in historical time are likely in the future.
We must prepare for earthquakes because:
* Utah is a seismically active region
* A majority of Utah's population is concentrated in the areas of greatest hazard
* Many of Utah's older buildings and lifelines have low earthquake resistance
Here is the link to Utah Preparedness Guide. This focuses on Earthquake preparedness in our area. It is colorful and very informative. Check out your home and determine whether you and your family are ready in the event of this pending natural disaster. If you think it may not be pending, I refer you to the video below that is specific to our region. It is factual and informative.

Take the time and the resources to get your affairs in order. A Family Home Evening would be a great time to educate your children as to what to expect and what to do. The old saying "If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear" is very true here. Make it a priority.
