Getting Ready For Valentine's Day.....Making "Heart" Rolls

It's only days away, you know....Valentine's Day.  Here is something fun to do that does not cost big bucks, but makes a special meal fun.

How To Make Heart-Shaped Rolls for Valentine's Day.

I wanted to do something fun for our dinner.  So, here we go. This was more simple that I realized.

I used my favorite white bread dough recipe and let my Breadmaker do all the work!  Roll your dough into the shape above... wide at one end and pointed at the other end.

Using a pair of scissors, cut the wide end in long-side down about 1/3 of the shape.

After cutting, attempt to soften the sharp edges with your fingers.

Shape them into a 'heart' and place them on your baking sheet in this manner. You can fit more on the baking sheet by placing them in this alternating pattern.

Spray a piece of plastic wrap with a cooking spray and cover your rolls while they raise.

After they raise (according to your recipe), the sharp edges should be softened and rounded.  Bake according to your bread recipe directions.  I baked my for 20 minutes, but next time I think I will try 18 minutes as 2 of them were harder on the bottom than the others. 

Here is the delicious result!  These are a fun and easy addition to any special meal with your sweetheart!  I made these Valentine Rolls totally from my Food Storage ingredients. 

And you thought Food Storage was boring!

Happy Valentine's Day...

When my children were small, I would get up early and make a special Valentine's Breakfast complete with balloons on each chair and a special Valentine's treat by their plate. Then, we would share a Valentine's Breakfast together before the hustle and bustle of school and life would kick in.  

Simple things like pancakes in the shape of hearts, strawberry syrup and whipped cream were common.  The little gifts were fun and simple.  However, the sweet smiles and expressions of affection were and continue to be the most valuable to me.

Last Sunday, I again had a "Valentine's" meal...with my adult children who live in the area. We had the balloons again, but this time I had sweet little grandchildren present.  One of them saw the balloons and kept saying "Bubble-Bubble".  Little gift bags were given and again sweet expressions of affection were shared.  The Mail has little gifts for sweet Grandchildren who live away from us.

Why do I share this with you, because making the bonds of love is very important.  It is not what you make and serve for breakfast or dinner, rather it is what you make to bind the bonds of eternity.

A Valentine's Day suggestion Idea!

I realize Valentine's Day is a few weeks away, but I just wanted to share the 'spread' we had during our Weekday Relief Society Meeting that we held this time last year.  We had a wonderful speaker and were fed spiritually.  Then, the doors were opened to our Chocolate Fountain Bar.

We have several ladies who are really watch what they eat either for dietary or personal reasons, and then there are others who like a treat now and then.  This allows both groups to enjoy and do as they choose.

We had a variety of items that could be enjoyed with or without a trip to the chocolate fountain.  Here is a list:

• Several different types of Marshmallows.
• Strawberries
• Angel food Cake
• Brownies
• Sliced Apples
• Pineapple
• Rice Crispy Treats
• Pretzels.

 

There was also ice water with Raspberries.

Add to that, some wonderful visiting....and you have the perfect Valentine's Day treat!

Happy Valentine's Day! You may wonder "why" I am putting a picture of a "Newell post" in celebration of this day. There is a reason....and I'd like to share it with you.

Several years ago, we had moved here from the East Coast. We rented a home while we investigated properties that we might purchase to build a home. We looked and looked, and found the choices to be a bit overwhelming. While we were in that process.....Valentine's Day came around.

I was looking forward to some extravagant gift from my husband.....but I didn't see any wrapped packages or flowers! I wondered if he forgot! As we gathered around as a family to celebrate with a wonderful meal and little presents, my husband brought out a "board" with a big red bow on it.

Now, keep in mind that my husband works with wood and sees it as a thing of beauty. I thought I was getting a "beautiful piece of wood". Well, as it turns out, it was this very Newell Post. He said "Happy Valentine's Day, I wanted to give you the first piece of our new home". I was very moved, and felt sheepish about my previous thoughts.

He built the staircase for our home using this post. Many times, as I slide my hand around this ball when making my way downstairs, I remember that Valentine's Day.

Even though I loved getting that "gift", I still love getting flowers.....and he didn't disappoint me this year either. I loved how they arrived; the delivery boy brought them into the house and set them on the counter when nobody was home. Don't be alarmed, the delivery boy...was my handsome son. It's all good!

Now, have a happy Valentine's Day. Do something special for those you love and express your thanks and appreciation for those who grace you life.
