What is the difference between Instant and Non-Instant Milk?

A frequent question that I have heard is"What is the difference between Instant Powdered Milk and Non-Fat Powdered Milk?"  They are definately are not the same.

Instant Nonfat Powdered milk:

  • Easy to mix with a spoon or blender as it dissolves more easily
  • Chill overnight for best flavor for drinking
  • May take twice as many granuals as powder to make Instant milk versus Non-fat Powdered Milk.
  • It has a more "puffy" appearance

Regular Powdered Milk:

  • More difficult to mix than instant milk
  • Mix with hot water (or use the method I described a few posts ago)
  • Blend in blender or with a wire whip
  • Refrigerate until well chilled before drinking.
  • Has a more "fine" and "powder" appearance.

Another frequently asked question is "What is a milk Alternative?"

  • Blend of Grade A Sweet Dairy Whey, and Dairy Solids, and nondairy solids.
  • It essentially is not made directly from milk.
  • It is good for Lactose-intolerant individuals
  • It may not work well in baking.
